Effective management requires an integrated, patient-centered approach that moves beyond traditional weight-centered models. This workshop introduces clinicians to an evidence-based framework for obesity care grounded in the Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines and enhanced through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles.

What I will learn?
Recognize obesity as a chronic disease according to the Canadian Obesity Guidelines. Understand the pathophysiology of obesity, including biological, psychological, and environmental drivers. Apply the Canadian clinical obesity treatment pathway, including assessment, diagnosis, and management. Identify and address weight bias and stigma in healthcare settings. Conduct a comprehensive obesity assessment using the 4Ms framework (Mental, Mechanical, Metabolic, Monetary). Explain the role of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in obesity and weight management. Use the CBT model to explore thoughts, behaviors, and emotional triggers linked to eating and activity. Define patient-centered treatment targets based on health outcomes rather than weight alone. Implement core CBT principles to improve adherence, motivation, and long-term lifestyle change.
